Only the Best

Edward Duke
(June 17, 1953 - January 8, 1994)

Happy Birthday, Edward, who would have been 57.

You inspire me. Still.

Love, hosaa,
looking for the silver lining

Edward and I were 'best friends' in high school (American School in Japan), nothwithstanding the fact that I was relentlessly heterosexual, and he relentlessly wasn't. Kept in touch with Edward intermittently until he died, but lots of stories about him, and our exploits in evading the academic rigors of high school. Great guy to pal around with then, and as Bertie would say, "I followed his future career with considerable interest". Phil Wheeler

I found this page because I very much enjoyed him in the "Tonight At 8:30" episodes, which I just watched.

I notice that there's some disagreement online as to whether he died of cancer or AIDS. Whatever the primary cause of death, I guess if he had AIDS, it's possible that he wasn't as heterosexual as childhood friends thought.

Whatever the realities of his life, I found his work delightful, and I hope to eventually see some more of it. I'm sorry there's no film record of his work in his solo show as Bertie Wooster.
